(almost daily) Blog

Tuesday 27th May

I attended the Youth Forum candidate event this evening, as did most other candidates! The room was filled almost to the brim! There weren’t enough seats!

Four very brave teens read out their speeches and played a video of other teens who were both politically engaged and not too shy to appear on camera. One mentioned honesty and more housing, one wanted approachability and all of them wanted active listening. We think we know what they want, but do we really? This is why we need citizens’ assemblies, to meet with deputies every three months or so. Otherwise they don’t know what’s been done / not done and, more importantly, we don’t know what they want or how we’ve been evaluated.

This event overlapped with the first of the BBC Hustings at Les Cotils. There will be a BBC Hustings every weeknight until Thursday next week – 8 in total, usually 10 candidates in each.

Tomorrow evening, there’s another Safety Net candidate drop-in and the Fairer Tax group’s second hustings (of three). I’ll be attending the Fairer Tax hustings, which will be at Les Beaucamps High School.
