(almost daily) Blog

Sunday 1st June part 2

Thank you to everyone who attended this afternoon’s instalment of the St. Peter Port hustings series. We had 8 candidates this time, entirely filling the back wall. We also quadrupled our audience size compared to last night. Jon Ozanne, despite being drafted in last minute to moderate, was excellent. What was quirky was that all but two candidates came out with a broadly similar policy platform and the audience had largely the opposite view.

The next and final hustings for candidates living in St. Peter Port will be held in the Constables’ Office on Tuesday 10th June, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. There will be 12+ candidates including many last-session exclusives, Jenny Kendall-Tobias chairing, seating limited.

Tomorrow will be a very busy day for me. Blanchelande have invited candidates to present to Years 7-10 (age 11 to 15) in assembly, then assist in a special politics-focused day whereby students will form political parties and write manifestos. I do wish they had this kind of thing when I was their age! Then I’m off to the Sixth Form Centre in Les Varendes in the afternoon to meet Years 11-13 (age 15-18), persuading those on the electoral roll to vote for us. This is an invaluable opportunity to engage with voters who will be living with the consequences of our policymaking, actions and inactions the longest. If we’re not doing it for them, then who are we doing this for? They’re the future.

I might attend the BBC hustings in the evening but I have a very full day the following day too, culminating in the BBC hustings in the evening where I’m participating! Will report again tomorrow evening.
