Tuesday 10th June

Today was interesting. So at the Guernsey Competition and Regulation Authority’s candidate meet early this evening, it seems that they are well-meaning, skilled people who need Economic Development to give them the go-ahead before they take on any case. So what happens if ED is slow to act or doesn’t act at all? We need to look into that.

The main event was our very well-attended (~30 audience members) hustings for candidates living in St. Peter Port plus special guests Aidan Matthews and Art Allen-O’Leary. Julie Creed very kindly stepped in to cover for Jenny Kendall-Tobias and did very well. Lots of questions ranging from collaboration and balancing the books to lack of provision for autism & ADHD for young people, plus transparency and housing. The audience was wide in demographic – the first hustings I’ve been to where the average age might have been as low as 45yo! Thank you so much for all who attended and took part. I think everyone walked away better informed.

Tomorrow, I’ll be attending one of Aurigny’s candidate briefings (yes, I have plenty of questions and suggestions!) and of course the last States-run meet-the-candidates event in the evening at Beaucamps High. It will be an informal mingle-style affair. Ooh, ‘eck…
